Waste Management Project at SDU

Suleyman Demirel University
Currently, Suleyman Demirel University faces a waste management problem, as there is a lack of a waste sorting system and proper recycling practices. This issue leads to a substantial amount of waste being sent to general landfills, causing harm to the environment. In response to this challenge, the university students has undertaken a Waste Management Project to implement an effective waste sorting and recycling system.

Project Description:
The project aims to address the waste management problem by implementing the following steps:

1. Collaboration with a waste management company:
Engage in discussions and negotiations with a reputable waste management company specializing in waste collection and recycling. Establish a partnership or contract for the regular pickup and disposal of waste from the university premises.

2. Identification of suitable locations for waste bins:
Conduct a thorough assessment of the university campus to determine strategic locations for installing waste bins. Consider factors such as high foot traffic areas, convenience for users, and adherence to waste management regulations.

3. Selection, procurement, and installation of waste bins:
Research and select appropriate waste bins for different types of waste, such as recyclables, organic waste, and general waste. Procure the chosen bins and ensure they meet quality and sustainability standards. Install the bins in the designated locations across the university campus.

4. Integration into university practices:
Implement a comprehensive waste management plan that includes proper waste disposal practices, waste segregation, and recycling initiatives. Raise awareness among the university community through educational campaigns, workshops, and signage to encourage active participation in waste sorting and recycling efforts.

Additionally, the project involves establishing a partnership with a waste management company for waste collection and processing. A designated area has been created on the university grounds for the temporary storage of waste collected from the bins. Furthermore, a student research and eco club called "Alliance of Blue Owl" has been formed to promote environmental consciousness and engage students in waste management initiatives.

Conclusion:
The Waste Management Project at Suleyman Demirel University aims to mitigate the environmental impact caused by improper waste disposal. Through the installation of waste bins, collaboration with a waste management company, and integration of sustainable waste management practices, the university seeks to establish an efficient waste sorting and recycling system. This project not only contributes to a cleaner and greener campus environment but also fosters a culture of responsible waste management among the university community.
